Greetings Tyler Parents, Families and Friends,
As I eagerly anticipate beginning my second year as Principal of Tyler Elementary School, it is with great pleasure and a sense of optimism that I write to you. I would like to WELCOME all our returning families, and I’m glad we can continue to grow together. I would also like to bring a special word of WELCOME and thanks to all of our new families for selecting Tyler as your school of choice. We are thrilled to welcome you aboard as a part of our Tyler family. We look forward to forging strong and lasting relationships with you, as together, we support your child(ren) in their life long journey of learning and growing.
The upcoming school year brings me a renewed sense of energy and a deeper level of commitment in continuing to make a positive difference in the lives of our students (Tyler Tigers). We will accomplish this by setting high academic expectations for all students and providing supportive systems to assure they are met. We will position enduring efforts in addressing school culture, setting high values for teacher performance, and increasingly engaging the entire school community. It is our goal that our Tyler Tigers will be well equipped academically and socially for middle school and beyond.
While embarking on new partnerships and initiatives, such as Play Works, Monthly Chats with the Principal, and Tellin’ Stories Family Partner Series to name a few; I am pleased to share that we will continue building the dynamic collaboration with our existing outstanding programs which include – Before and After-Care, Everybody-Wins Reading Mentors Program, Boks, GeoPlunge, Read to a Million Reading Initiative Incentive, Academic Intervention and Enrichment Programs, After School Tutoring Programs and The Outdoor Classroom.
In addition to being excited about our new and continued partnerships and initiatives, we are also delighted to announce that Tyler is currently undergoing a huge floor-tiling project. This project will bring new floor tile throughout the entire building this school year. Additionally, our classrooms, hallways and stairwells, the auditorium, and cafeteria will have a fresh new look to open the school year.
With our remarkable staff, dedicated parents and determined students we are delighted that Tyler Elementary School is such a wonderful and unique experience. Together, I believe we can build on increasing academic success and promoting a positive context for learning throughout this upcoming school year. If you would like to contact me, please feel free to reach me via e-mail Mitchell.Brunson@dc.gov , or you can also contact the school directly if you have any additional questions at (202) 939-4810.
I look forward to building a gratifying partnership in your child (ren)’s education.
Mitchell V. Brunson
