Dear Tyler (Chisholm) Community, 

First days of school always bring so much excitement and life to our community; today is no different. The 2023-2024 school year is going to be a transformational time for Tyler: this is the inaugural year of our school-wide bilingual arts program and we are currently in the midst of a name change process.

 After years of advocacy and community outreach, we hope to officially rename our school after Shirley Chisolm; the first African American woman elected to Congress, a Spanish speaker, and a fierce advocate for early education and child welfare.

In a year of many changes, one constant will be the efforts of our dedicated PTA. This year, with your involvement, we will continue to build community and support our teachers so that they can continue to provide a world class educational experience for our children.

Whether you are a new Pre-K 3 family (welcome!) or a returning veteran family, we are here to help you navigate the wide variety of opportunities for our children. There are so many ways to get involved. We need volunteers for the events you all know and love, like the Pancake Breakfast or Fall Fest. We will raise money for the school musical, film club, and even organize a happy hour for our teachers (they deserve a drink, right?). 

We need room parents to liaise between teachers and parents, coordinate special events, and procure supplies for their classrooms. If you're good at graphic design, carpentry, grant writing, or any skill that you think can help the school, let us know and we'll make use of it.

Each new school year brings the opportunity to refresh our commitment to our wonderful school. We hope that you will join us in supporting our community with your time, advocacy (see meeting schedule below), and support .

The Tyler (Chisholm) Elementary PTA is a non profit 501(c)(3) that aims to be a place to make friends, build community and support our scholars. Every parent, guardian, and teacher of a student attending Tyler (Chisholm) is automatically a member of the PTA. Our mission is to promote open communication and understanding between parents and staff at Tyler (Chisholm), and to provide resources to support the school in offering outstanding opportunities for our students.

PTA Meetings

PTA general meetings are open to all.The more involved parents we have, the more we can do to support our students! The meetings are held in person every other month, typically on a Wednesday from  6-7 PM  in the school gym. The meetings are a forum for sharing information on important school issues, connecting with other parents at the school, and engaging in a productive dialogue on how best to serve the students.  PTA meetings are a great way to gather information and connect with the school. We hope to see you there! Dinner and childcare are provided.

For the March 20th PTA meeting, it will be hosted on Zoom, not at school.

There are many ways to get involved in the Tyler community!

We encourage all parents to volunteer in some way to build a stronger Tyler community.

Opportunities include: 

• Volunteer for a Greet and Go shift on Friday mornings!

• Volunteer to speak to new Tyler parents as they join the community (Link to sign up)

• Hold a fundraising with a Tyler Elementary FUNraising toolkit Link to toolkit  

• Join us (and bring a fellow family) to signature Tyler events (see events section above)

• Give on a recurring or one time basis

• Join a PTA Committee
